Weekly Bitcoin Price Analysis & Forecasts the 24th August - 30th August 2026
Following on from last week’s aggressive breakout from the mid-$60,000 region, Bitcoin spent the week of 24th August to 30th August consolidating around the upper-$70,000 range.
BTC initially traded above $80,000 before selling pressure pushed price back toward $77,000. Importantly, buyers continued to defend this lower area and Bitcoin remained comfortably above the major breakout zone from the previous week.
Rather than immediately reversing the large move higher, BTC has spent the week digesting those gains between roughly $77,000 and $81,000. The hourly chart is beginning to compress around the 50 EMA, while the daily chart remains considerably stronger following the recent reclaim of the 50 EMA and 200 EMA.
The purple line represents the 50 EMA, while the yellow line represents the 200 EMA.
Hourly Analysis
The hourly chart shows Bitcoin entering the week with momentum still elevated after the previous breakout.
BTC initially pushed into the $80,500 to $81,000 region but failed to establish a sustained move higher. Sellers stepped in around these highs, driving Bitcoin back toward the $78,000 area.
Price then spent several sessions consolidating between approximately $77,500 and $79,000. Another attempt toward $80,000 was rejected before Bitcoin briefly swept below $77,500 and tested the rising 200 EMA around $77,000.
That reaction is significant. Buyers quickly stepped back in around the 200 EMA, and BTC has since recovered toward $78,400.
The hourly 50 EMA is now flattening around the $78,000 region, suggesting momentum has shifted from aggressive expansion into consolidation. Holding above this area would keep the short-term structure constructive.
The first resistance sits around $79,000 to $79,500. Above this, the $80,000 to $81,000 region remains the major barrier preventing another leg higher.
On the downside, $77,000 to $77,500 is the key support zone. A breakdown below the hourly 200 EMA would weaken the structure and could expose $76,000, followed by the larger breakout support around $74,000 to $75,000.
Daily Analysis
The daily chart remains considerably more bullish than it was only a few weeks ago.
Bitcoin’s breakout from approximately $64,000 carried price decisively through both the daily 50 EMA and 200 EMA before reaching the upper-$70,000 region. Since then, BTC has consolidated above both major moving averages rather than immediately giving back the move.
This is an important structural development.
The yellow daily 200 EMA is currently around $72,000, while the purple 50 EMA is rising from the upper-$60,000 region. Bitcoin trading around $78,000 leaves a meaningful cushion above both averages.
The current daily consolidation between approximately $76,000 and $80,000 therefore looks more like a pause following the breakout than a confirmed reversal.
The immediate challenge remains $80,000 to $82,000. This region contains previous price structure and has already attracted selling pressure. A strong daily close above $80,000 would improve the probability of BTC challenging the $82,000 region.
On the downside, $76,000 to $77,000 is the first important support area. Below that, the daily 200 EMA around $71,500 to $72,500 becomes the major structural level.
As long as Bitcoin continues holding above the daily 200 EMA, the broader recovery remains intact.
Summary
Bitcoin spent the week consolidating after the previous explosive breakout, trading predominantly between $77,000 and $80,000.
The hourly chart has moved into a more neutral consolidation phase, but buyers continue to defend the 200 EMA around $77,000. The daily chart remains constructive, with BTC comfortably above both major moving averages following the recent breakout.
Key levels to monitor include:

Major resistance: $80,000 to $81,000
Higher resistance: $82,000
Initial support: $77,500 to $78,000
Key hourly support: $77,000
Major daily support: $71,500 to $72,500
Looking ahead, the major red-folder events from the Crypto Craft calendar arrive toward the end of the week:
US Average Hourly Earnings m/m
US Non-Farm Employment Change
US Unemployment Rate
Non-Farm Payrolls will likely be the largest scheduled macro catalyst of the week. Employment growth is forecast at 58,000, while unemployment is expected to remain at 4.1%.
A stronger-than-expected labour report could increase expectations that monetary policy remains restrictive and place upward pressure on bond yields, potentially creating volatility across Bitcoin and other risk assets. Softer employment data may support expectations for easier monetary conditions, although substantially weaker figures could also raise concerns around economic growth.
For now, Bitcoin remains technically constructive. The aggressive breakout has transitioned into consolidation rather than a major reversal, and holding the $77,000 region keeps buyers in control. A clean break through $80,000 to $81,000 would provide the next signal that Bitcoin is ready to continue the broader move higher.
